Barbara Newell Ed.D. Biography Dr. Newell, author, speaker, and educator is working tirelessly to bring creativity to schools everywhere. Dr. Newell has been winning speech contests since the age of 15. After winning her first speech contest, teachers and classmates selected her to run for State office of a large educational organization. After winning the election, she began speaking before state dignitaries, making educational policy decisions, and presiding over delegations of more than 1,000 students from the Tri-State area. The next year, she was invited by a major university to give the freshman keynote address. Toastmaster awards for Best Speaker line her walls. She is named in Who's Who Among American's Teachers, which is only attained by student nomination. She was nominated for Teacher of The Year, and recognized for outstanding leadership by the board of education. While serving as gifted coordinator, Dr. Newell wrote her Master's thesis on the need for rigorous curriculum for advanced and gifted learners, and then implemented the program in her district. As coordinator of gifted services, she presented lessons weekly in 25 classrooms role modeling curriculum designed for all levels and wrote over 250 classroom projects designed to stimulate creative thinking. These projects are featured in her presentations and workshops. While pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership, she conducts workshops and speaks to parents and teachers regarding motivating curriculum. Her projects have been used by Teach America and touted as "the best culminating projects they have ever seen." Dr. Newell has been recognized as a gifted speaker, writer, and teacher trainer by both colleagues and district administration. She has presented workshops on creativity, how to engage advanced learners, enhancing thinking skills, social and emotional needs of gifted children, the need for goal setting, and writing curriculum for all levels and learning styles.      Ms. Newell has a B.S., M.A., and Ed.D., and has certifications in The Teaching of Thinking, CLAD, Gifted Education, and is a certified Trainer of Trainers for Gifted Learners.
